About NL Interactive

Thank-you for visiting.

While visiting family in Alberta during a summer vacation in August 1996, I experienced first hand the amount of home sickness many displaced Newfoundland and Labradorians have for their province. Just three weeks after my summer vacation, NL Interactive was born. The original mission of NL Interactive was to provide an electornic means for displaced fellow Newfoundland and Labradorians to connect with their home. The mission stands true today. Since 1996, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world have visited the the NL Interactive website to explore the unique culture of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Today, NL Interactive hosts thousands of photographs, recipes and a very popular online community: The Puffin Post Online Pub--another great way to interact with Newfoundland and Labradorians all over the world.

During the spring of 1998 NL Interactive began to experiment with an Olympus digital camera (D-620L) to produce some of the images that appear on the site. We immediately liked the results. The color reproduction, and the overall cleaner picture, made a digital camera a must for the site. Today NL Interactive is using two digital Canon EOS models with a variety of wide angle and telephoto lenses.

Some of these photographs and other Newfoundland and Labrador merchandise can be purchased via our online store: The Tidal Pool.

For Newfoundland and Labradorians living away, we hope the NL Interactive website will take the sick out of homesick, and allow you to experience a little bit of home.

1st Prize, Top NL Website, also winner of the People's Choice Award. October 1998: Cable Atlantic's "Night of the Living Web" Reference:

Jack Botsford cited examples where students had demonstrated remarkable levels of technical and artistic achievement in the creation of products for the IT sector. A recent project of NATI was a contest for web site design called "The Night of the Living Web." The contest was hosted by Cable Atlantic. There were 25 entries and prizes for the participants included Operation ONLINE's donation of a trip to a multimedia conference in New Brunswick. Entries were divided into two categories: corporate and educational/private individuals and the entries were judged in three areas: technical achievement, aesthetics, and effectiveness. The judging was done remotely by IT and design professionals in Scotland, Ireland, England, and Ontario. "The level of skill demonstrated by young people (high school students) was very impressive," says Botsford. "Many of them developed these skills through projects sponsored by the COOPERATION Agreement on Human Resource Development."
